Block Out

Block Out is a block puzzle game by Grand Games, released in October 2025, and it has scaled to $250K+ in daily IAP revenue, according to AppMagic.

However, despite this steady growth, the game is still not available on Google Play. Let’s take a look at the design choices behind this rising title.

Proven Concept
Following the formula used with Magic Sort and Car Match, Grand Games once again builds on a proven core loop. This time, they take inspiration from the biggest hybrid casual, Color Block Jam, and expand it into a more polished casual experience.

From LEGO-like blocks to the shredding mechanic, the game closely follows the same design, but the biggest difference lies in its level design approach. Instead of presenting the entire puzzle upfront, the game gradually unlocks sections of the level as the player progresses, reducing cognitive load and making the experience more approachable.

Rich Progression
The game features deterministic levels with time limits, encouraging players to improve with each attempt. Hard level labels further help set expectations, while boosters provide an escape from difficult situations. The game’s meta is consists of a journey map, leaderboards, and a collection system that unlocks at level 95. LiveOps also is introduced early, with multiple events that continue to expand throughout progression. Additionally, new gameplay features are introduced at a steady pace, keeping the experience fresh and engaging.

IAP-Heavy Monetization
Although the game includes ads, monetization is centered around IAPs. The only ad placement is RV ads for life refills, allowing players to continue without hitting a progression barrier. On the IAP side, the in-game shop offers various bundles and coin packs, while the premium pass adds meaningful benefits such as increased maximum lives and even acts as the fail offer. Since all boosters and level retries are tied to soft currency, the game naturally nudges players toward IAPs.
