Unravel Master

Unravel Master is a hybridcasual screw puzzle game by Supersonic, released in April 2025 and it has already scaled to over $900K+ in monthly revenue, according to AppMagic.

Let’s break down how this game masterfully blends a trendy yarn aesthetic with addictive screw puzzle mechanics.

Simple Gameplay
The game features a short and intuitive onboarding tutorial that helps players quickly become familiar with mechanics. While the core loop is straightforward, the game cleverly adds depth and variety through its diverse yarn-based structures. The progress map on top helps build anticipation and motivates players to keep progressing, while hard level labels enhance the challenge. Additionally, clear progress indicators such as showing remaining pieces, keep players oriented, while boosters help smooth out difficulty spikes. Notably, the game allows players to pause mid-level and resume later, ensuring a seamless and player-friendly experience, especially since many puzzles can take over 10 minutes to complete.

Meta Layer
The game adopts a decorative meta, allowing players to use collected yarn to knit and complete beautiful scenes, giving every core session a rewarding visual payoff. Other meta elements include a collection system that displays all completed yarn structures and a win streak mechanic that fuels engagement while leveraging loss aversion. For sustained win streaks of five, the game rewards players with a unique “x-ray vision” feature that helps them solve puzzles more strategically.

Hybrid Monetization
The game combines both IAAs and IAPs for monetization. RV ads are integrated into multiple touchpoints, including multiplying level rewards, purchasing boosters, and unlocking additional boxes. Apart from RV ads, players can also obtain more boosters using soft currency, subtly nudging them toward spending more of it, and eventually purchasing IAPs to replenish their balance. Also, revival options are tied exclusively to soft currency, reinforcing this loop. Additionally, the game effectively employs loss aversion techniques, time-based IAP offers, and a diverse in-game shop filled with bundles that appeal to a wide range of player spending behaviors.
